Hadassah Team Studies Children’s Pain
A Hadassah Medical Center team has embarked on a study to determine whether children’s pain is being managed adequately once the children leave the hospital. The team, comprising Dr. Ron Lamdan and Dr. Vladimir Goldman, pediatric orthopedic surgeons, and Yaffa Zisk, Ph.D., of the Henrietta Szold Hadassah-Hebrew University School of Nursing, is collecting data on 50 children, ages two to fifteen, who are treated for fractures in Hadassah’s emergency room to determine how much pain medication their parents choose to give them once they go home and how the parents arrive at their decision. One factor they will examine is whether the child’s age is a significant factor in the amount of pain medicine the parents choose to give. The researchers will then correlate the data with the parents’ age, educational level, gender, and cultural background.
